I hate Deku, not the series.

Ah, I see. I take it that you hate Deku because he is either a generic Shonen Anime Protagonist and/or a Mary Sue (whatever that means).

A "Mary Sue" is a character that has no real flaws, everyone in universe loves them and just seem to be perfect at everything.

I hate deku because yes he is generic, his motives have been done a million times before, his power is boring, his peronality is boring. He is boring. I honestly just enjoy the show more when it focuses on ANY other character. Deku is just so obviously meant to be the underdog that we're supposed to pity and root for, but honestly he just feels so 2 dimensional. Theres the underdog, and then theres just pathetic

Well I know what the idea of a Mary Sue is, but I was also have been lead to believe that A) Any strict definition of a Mary Sue as a character rather than a narrative structure usually ropes in character generally not considered Mary Sues and B) The idea that a Mary Sue is a bad thing is a misconception.

That said, it is a very common criticism that My Hero Academia is the New Naruto: Baby's First Shonen Anime mixed with modern Isekai Protagonism that makes the main character a messianic power house that renders most of the supporting cast as goofy props in his own story. Especially when compared to certain other Shonens and Anime like Black Clover.

But I still like him.

You're entitled to like who you like. But when I see characters like Bakugo, Shoto, kirishima and especially the mentor characters, and then look back t deku, Yeah its pretty obvious who the real show runners are. Even more pissed now that deku apparently. Has 6 more powers coming...even though no previous user of one for all did, nor was it ever hinted at. He's on his way to becoming a modern day naruto alright, and I'll probably hate him even more then
