It's great fun in Vidya games
Sadly though, this is also a real aircraft that is kept in real life service due in part too it's public perception, the insane hype and popularity surrounding it make it a risky move politically for anyone, be they civilian or military, to try and retire the aircraft.
But it's guns ability to reliably destroy even older tanks that insurgents light get their hands on diminishes year after year after year and was never that great to begin with. Mobile SAMs and heavy Mobile AAA like the Tunguska platform make approaching any line of armoured vehicles very risky (because if there is such an AA platform hidden among them, approaching to withi' gun range is a death sentence). It struggled to fly high enough to effectively avoid MANPADS, and can't go fast enough to avoid high altitude SAMs.
It's only really effective against tanks and AA platforms if it carries precision air-ground weapons, which any 4th gen multirole fighter can do better. It's gun is very effective against supply trucks, but so is the 20mm Vulcan installed on every US fighter currently in service (except for the F-35A which carries a 25mm gun, or the other 2 F-35 variants which have gun pods to carry that same 25mm gun).
Honestly a good upgrade for the A-10 would be to just take out the gun (and redistribute it's internals to maintain Ballance) and replace it with a 20 or 25 mil, saving it a lot of weight so it can fly both faster and slower and higher, has even greater loiter time, and can be more accurate

Just a casual aviation and military nerd. I'm not the most trustworthy source, so here, have a better source, the publically released transcripts of the actual US investigation of one of the more infamous friendly fire incidents of the A-10
The pilot was found to have acted as best as he could have with the information available to him and was not found to be at fault, the plane however, took a big chunk of the blame.
