Oh I am SO glad I don't have anything in my memory close enough for that to bring back memories of anything like that...

Unfortunately, I do. They gave us all violins and let us hack away at 'em. We were unspeakable.

Giving kids violins? Seems like putting something like that in the hand of a child is just asking for trouble, when I was a kid the 'musical weapon of tonal slaughter' of choice was a recorder, cheap plastic, sturdy, and all you had to do was exhale to make noise.

My mom had one of those for a while. One of her many interests that she'd fixate on for a year or so, then get bored of and drop completely.

A fairly harmless interest I suppose, unless you had to listen to her attempts to make music come out. I've got a friend that's sort of like that, he tends to bounce around between hobbies, though for him at least a year would be Very much longer than his usual.

And with the 'dignity' inherent in 'reality shows' these days, probably not too far fetched either. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if something like that had already been tried in japan, though in their case it wouldn't be due to gross insensitivity, but rather an attempt for a gameshow that somehow differentiates itself from all the other crazy ones they seem to have.

Hell is Japanese game shows. Forever. Nuff said.

Hmm, all sorts of random, pointless, crazy, disgusting etc. things happening, with it changing up every half hour to some other crazy setup, for all eternity... yeah, that would be all sorts of horrible. Mind, not 6th or 7th level horrible, but 4th or 5th would probably be about right. A nice punishment for those that always insisted on an ordered life, no matter how much it screwed over those around them.
