My family was into movies, really into movies, As a kid I was into scifi movies and the special effects that go into them and I would watch the classic ones on WOR-TV Chiller Theater and then read in the magazines about the ones coming to the theater. Starlog, Cinefantastique and Famous Monsters of Film Land were my sources and I knew that The Dark Crystal was coming and I knew it would be groundbreaking. Jim Henson was a master of storytelling and of unique visual effects. I would see The Dark Crystal 5 times in the theater and see more details each time I watched.
The Skeksis were an avian reptilian race that represented the dark side of human nature, imagine if dinosaurs had not gone extinct and formed a society of raptors. They saw only short term greed rather than a long term comfortable life. Their clothing was ornate and different from one character to the other and Skeksil was the most interesting, second in line to the throne and annoying as heck he was hated by all of his kind. He came up with a plan to stay young forever but it required harvesting other creatures life force to do so...it was pretty dastardly. See the Dark Crystal if you have not, it was Henson's masterpiece before he died way too early. Then check out the Age of Resistance series that came out on Netflix.

I always get a slot in her Monster streams and then have to think of which monster would be fluffy enough to be in my gallery of fluff.

I loved The Dark Crystal as a kid, thought all of the creature designs were incredible! Such an amazing movie~
I somehow missed out on Fraggle Rock though, and I've finally been able to watch it recently :D Its wonderful!

Nice! Same! This movie was so different than anything before it. After seeing and loving it and Labyrinth my family moved to Germany with the US army so I missed Fraggle Rock also but came back to the states just as Henson died and it was so sad how that ended up happening from something so avoidable, working through and failing to treat a head cold. He was a force of nature that shaped my childhood. Sure muppet movies would still come out regularly and Henson's daughter Lisa would later bring together a team to make the movie Mirrormask in the same style as her father would have. Not sure if you saw that, it is ok, worth a watch but the recent "Dark Crystal Age of Resistance" series was way better and a worthy prequel, don't miss it. And thanks, yes DirtyBird really enjoys drawing monsters and puts extra love into them, check out the next time she does a Ko-Fi head shot stream and get one, halloween is limited to monster heads but she does others. Cheers!
