It is not the first time for Johnny to approach Patience with hopes to win her heart. In fact, it isn't even the second, nor the third you see... but the redhead, still not swayed by the charismatic man's persistence, decides to use her magican prowess to quicken the resolution of his new try... contrary to her name, patience is not one of her virtues.

Johnny doesn't really view it that way. Johnny's not a bad guy, he's just kinda dumb and bad a social stuff. I think in another commission I did, I managed to get the balance just right.

He says to the genie, "I want to spend time with you, if you know what I mean." He's trying to be smooth, but it comes across as sleazy because of how he frames it. But if you think about it, he doesn't wish for her to be his girlfriend, or wish to have a girlfriend. He wishes to spend time with someone. The idea of forcing someone to be his girlfriend is something that's so antithetical to his nature that he doesn't even consider it.
His heart's in the right place, he just doesn't really grasp social signifiers. He's trying to imitate the "cool" people from movies and TV because he has no real life role-models, but has never grasped how artificial tv situations are. He's trying to be clever, he's trying to be charming, he's trying to be suave, but he just comes across as sleazy and he doesn't understand why. But in his mind, he just has to keep trying. No to him always means no . . . but only for now.
In the many commissions I've done with him, he is endearingly earnest in his stupidity. And in the moments when he's caught off-guard and not trying to be charming, you end up seeing he's actually kind of a sweet-heart.
