This car sports both badges. Just as Ford based the first Mustang on its inexpensive Falcon model, Chrysler did the same, creating the sporty Plymouth Barracuda from the more conservative Valiant. By incorporating many of the Valiant’s parts into the new design, development and tooling costs and time were greatly reduced.
This Barracuda is an example of that model’s debut year, 1964. The signature rear window was the largest installed on a standard production car up to that point in time.

Based on Chrysler's A-body, the Barracuda debuted in fastback form on April 1, 1964. The new model used the Valiant's 106 in (2,692 mm) wheelbase and the Valiant hood, headlamp bezels, windshield, vent windows, quarter panels, doors, A-pillar, and bumpers; the trunk and some of the glass was new.
