Quilladons: The Starmorph love letter to Mobian Hedgehogs and Echidnas! This species was created as a way to take a piece of inspiration from the Sonic fandom with me. This is also the sub-species of Starmorph that Rosie is! ^w^
Quilladons are land-based Starmorphs. Their main talent is being able to curl up into a spherical form and spinning at high speed for a multitude of attacks. They're very adept at burrowing underground and can use their spines to aid them in battle. They come in two variations: Sharp Spine and Smooth Spine. Sharp Spine Quilladons have bigger, stiff quills that are more in line for offensive attacks. They can build up energy within them and expel it for projectile attacks by spinning at high speed, almost like a porcupine shooting out its quills. While they can burrow, they prefer living above ground like most other HEDmorphs.
Smooth Spine Quilladons are a bit different. They have smooth, silky, dreadlock-like quills that can't exactly build up energy on their own. However, Smooth Spines can do something Sharp Spines can't. By tucking themselves into a high-speed spin, they can actually absorb energy attacks, completely protecting themselves from harm and capturing said energy for their own use. This makes them more defensive than their counterparts. Depending on the attribute, some can even use certain techniques to absorb energy without even needing to spin. They have to be careful though as the more energy their quills hold, the more strain they put on their bodies. Smooth Spines like to live underground and use their burrowing skills to make expansive underground dugouts for their homes.
Neither variation has visible ears, although they are capable of hearing. Quilladon 'ears' exist as shallow, horizontal slits at the sides of their heads. For a Smooth Spine, they will be behind their quills.
