Browsing a book aobut tattoo art symbolism and noticed that there was a lot of symbols for christ and christianity. I just can't get over how spooky that religion is, I mean, its very core principle is a human sacrifice. A thinking, living, feeling, breathing human being had to get mercilessy tortured and murdered to satisfy some Great Big Sadist in the Sky. And then they claim to be the religion of peace, love and charity, my ass!
How come noone calls them out on this? If Islam or any other religion had symbolic cannibalism as part of their church service, we'd point to that as proof of how brutal, savage and violent their religion is, yet we persist in this notion that christianity is harmless? Christianity creeps me out! I got intellectual reasons to disbelieve the existence of gods and similar supernatural beings, but if my salvation really depended on someone getting tortured and sacrificed, then count me among the wicked, cus I want no part of that whatsoever.

I understand what you mean, human sacrifice is not pretty, but that doesn't make it bad.
The christian bible says that Jesus suffered many hardships and died in order to show us how much he cared for humanity. He was willing to risk life and limb to teach us the value of love and compassion there and then, and to make us reflect about how evil our actions were and are in the present time.
The bible says that he chose and accepted his faith, and had to die in order for others to believe in his creed.
Also, it is so the religion of peace, love and charity. At least from the sources we currently have. You never read of Jesus picking up a sword and killing somebody who pissed him off, or ignored someone who needed his help with something. He was the ultimate hippie.
... Cannibalism? Do you even know what that word means? xD
Ritual sacrifice, yes. But you have to remember that it wasn't his own people that killed him, much less the Christians. It was the Roman empire, who had conquered and repressed Judea at the time, and were trying to make an example out of Jesus. "So you want to praise gods that aren't ours, eh? Well, then we're gonna humiliate and kill your biggest prophet! Nyah nyah!".
The only reason we remember his pain, is so that we are aware of the extremes we can go to: dying for something we love and believe in, and murdering others for thinking differently that us.
It's okay if you don't want to believe in a superior power, but at least try to learn and understand the ideas of religion before you judge and refuse them.
Also, widespread Christianity professes that Jesus had to die in order to release the souls of the damned that were trapped in hell, or something like that. So think of that if you're feeling heroic.

WHAT?!
... Cannibalism? Do you even know what that word means? xD
"Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." (John 6:53)
That, if I'm not mistaken, is cannibalism. It is symbolic cannibalism, that is, he's not actually telling us to eat his flesh, it is just a symbol of acceptence.
The only reason we remember his pain, is so that we are aware of the extremes we can go to: dying for something we love and believe in, and murdering others for thinking differently that us.
...and troughout history, christians have done more than enough of both.

First of all, want to believe? why would accepting something as true be a matter of what gives you them sot personal satisfaction? I think the best criteria for accepting something as true if it can be demonstrated to be well,... true. That is the part about religion I really don't get. The best explanation I can gather is that it "feels true", which simply isnt a good enough reason to accept something as true.
And you are more than welcome to try and explain the concepts you feel I should know to me. I was an assistant leader for the swedish church's youth group in my town for a couple of years, but apprently they didn't do a good enough job explaining it. Even the boring leader-meetings spent browsing the bible didn't do it apprently. PErhaps they simply wasn't true christians...

So you think sacrificing yourself for what you believe in and for the good of others is a bad thing? If so, then not believing in something is kinda selfish.
All religions have symbolism in them. Due to the lack of solid, scientific truth, symbols and icons are needed for the mind to have something physical to anchor with, in order for the mind to comprehend.
Catholics have figurines of saints, Hindu worship the cow as a harbinger of life, even satanists have rituals and markings to have a material manifestation of their ideals.
The "consuming" of the messiah's flesh and blood symbolizes a symbiotic pact, that you take into yourself what he was and what he stood for, so you can do what he did and live what he lived. Basically, to become as great as he was.
It's the ultimate desire of every christian, to live and die as that beacon of hope that the legends tell us about.
Murdering in the name of God is a sin, and anyone who has ever slaughtered someone "because it's the will of god", is wrong and untruthful.
You can't blame religions and ideals, you have to blame the people who twisted them to satisfy the evil inside them.
I'm sorry if you want to "see to believe". Religions don't have tangible proof, it comes from the heart. That is the true test of any believer, to be able to see beyond what you have in front of you, to see beyond yourself. If you can't feel it inside you, if you can't fathom that there is more to it than what meets the eye, then perhaps it's time to really question what the heck it is that you're doing in this world.

So you think sacrificing yourself for what you believe in and for the good of others is a bad thing?
No, I don't. I think that someone who demands such a sacrifice would be evil.
If so, then not believing in something is kinda selfish.
Well, I don't think anybody believes self-sacrifice to be evil. And there are plently of people who believe in someone or something who didn't sacrifice himself, there are more options than two.

Yes, allusions to cannibalism used as a symbol, symbolic cannibalism. It is as accurate as calling a print copy the "dead tree edition". I jsut find using eating flesh and blood as a metaphor to be kinda disturbing,

Well, religion is not the problem, lack of critical thinking is the problem. People who are willing to belive something on faith risk being manipulated by evil people. It doesnt matter if its a religion, a political ideology, alternative medical treatments, fortune telling or pseudo-science.

Well then, suit yourself.
If you only wanna look at something from one side and pass judgment onto something based on the bad, it's your choice.
Maybe I'm biased towards Christianity because I think it's fun and gives me peace and something higher to think about, but I suppose it's because I need it.
Not saying that I personally believe in all the mumbo-jumbo it contains, it's got its bullshit just like everything else.
I just like the ideals of spreading peace and helping the needy that my church professes. I suppose I'm in it for the more humane side of things, not because PRAISE GOD PRAISE GOD.
I suppose that makes me just pseudo-christian, but you can't blame me for trying to make this mudball we live in into something more livable.
But that's just me.
