Age has not been kind to Avery's father Trig Tarquin; jealous of cousin Springer's dad Gabriel Hockman, inwardly resentful of Weird Uncle Hands, all related via Trig's sisters.
Trig has his reasons though. Hands Fieffel has always been a touch old-fashioned, but after his wife succumbed to illness, his 'living in the past' mid-life crisis kicked suddenly into high gear and he's never come out of it. Trig finds this disrespectful to his sister's memory.
Gabe, on the other hand, is well-to-do enough from his son's success not to let Hands' antics bother him.
