005a is a plush entity that feeds on dreams, earning it and other instances of its kind the title “DreamEaters”. After following up on a series of incidents involving individuals disappearing for several days at a time, only to show up in seemingly random locations with little to no memory of what transpired, an investigative unit was sent in and ultimately recovered 005a.
As stated above, 005 instances, from this point forward referred to as DreamEaters, feed exclusively on the dreams of other creatures, and have evolved several abilities to assist in hunting and consuming prey items. A DreamEater will often position itself amongst non-anomalous plush toys or bedding, in locations ranging from toy stores and gift shops, to mattress stores and even bedrooms. Where such a large plush would seemingly be out of place under regular circumstances, DreamEaters have an innate ability to cause anyone directly viewing it to perceive it as a regular plush toy, pillow, or bedding item, allowing it to essentially hide in plain sight. This ability is negated when viewed indirectly, such as through a camera.
DreamEaters primarily prey upon tired individuals in need of a good night’s sleep, often consuming overworked employees, favoring individuals that work night shifts. Once suitable prey has been located, a DreamEater will proceed to stalk the individual, for several days if needed, until it manages to corner them out of direct sight of other individuals, at which point it will attempt to make eye contact. Upon making eye contact with the DreamEater, an individual will immediately enter a trance state in which they feel overcome with a heavy sleepiness, along with an intense desire to approach the DreamEater. Once they’ve approached, the DreamEater will promptly swallow them, at which point the prey individual will fall into a very deep sleep. Similar to their ability to hide in plain sight, the DreamEater’s hypnotic effect is negated when viewed through a camera or any other indirect means.
The DreamEater will feed on the dreams of the individual inside, holding them anywhere from a few hours to a week before regurgitating them. Once regurgitated, the prey individual will regain consciousness within a few hours. The individual will be unable to clearly recall the event, often stating that they remember having a “strange dream” about a large plush toy, followed by immediately waking up at the location of recovery. Prey items of DreamEaters are not harmed by the predatory creatures and often report feeling extremely well rested upon recovery.
DreamEaters can and will often consume multiple individuals at once, stuffing their hollow, padded bodies to the point of borderline incapacitation in extreme cases. They can vary drastically in color and general appearance, but usually take the form of a quadrupedal creature with short legs, an alligator or lizard-shaped head, a long neck, and a large, thick tail capable of holding prey.
well that was a wordy one. there will be another of these guys im designing, a variant that feeds on nightmares and fear, and is a little more insidious than this cutie~
