had the idea for centaurs that they are fairy like manifestations from pretending/imagining being an animal, and that other taurs have the human torso poping out where the eyes would be with certain animals, representing a person looking out through the animals eyes (say, you'd see a hippos mouth with a human torso behind it). people don't really imagine using a horses mouth so horse centaurs don't manifest the mouth parts.
