You sit, waiting to be served, when a well-dressed tiger appears before you. He is odd, a pair of horns curve behind him and when he gets closer you realize his eyes are dark. “Greeting my lord, you may call me Ryth.” He speaks in smooth, low tones. From behind his back he produces a cup and a teapot. “I’m afraid the leaves are still steeping, sir. Perhaps you would like to hear a story while we wait? I became very good at telling them when I served my old master, you see.”
“I come from a place called Tarkir, you won’t find it on any maps here. There I was in service to a mighty dragon, they rule the lands there. I provided entertainment and comfort to my master for as long as I could remember. I sang, told stories, cleaned and massaged his scales, whatever he asked of me. It was important to learn quickly in his service, lest you become a meal instead, and I became very good at learning. I learned to remain in the background, to listen. I learned how to make it so my claws left marks that none could see…” As he speaks his claws flex and just for a moment there’s a crackle of dark energy. “Eventually, I even learned of our secret history, long hidden from us by the scale lords. I learned how our people fought and died against them. And that day, my master taught me one last and very important lesson.”
“I learned that those overgrown lizards can die just like anyone else.” There is a glow in his eyes that wasn’t there before but it vanishes in an instant. “Ah, the tea is ready. Shall I pour it for you, sir?”

Rahir ! This is Ryth, a rakshasa from the plane of Tarkir. This cunning servant was once part of the court of the dragon Lord Silumgar but he has since turned on his former masters and hopes to one day bring freedom to the rest of his home. I really love the mood and the lightning in this one, especially with the magic effect on his hands.
