It's because they're highly venomous too. Much more venom than in a wasp's stinger. Enough venom, in fact, to basically paralyze a decent sized fish and let the bug suck out its innards WHILE IT'S STILL ALIVE.
Yeah, I've dealt with these things before too. Big freaky things, they are. Caught one a few years ago that was even bigger than the one in this picture.
