Another piece I was working on over the last year, just picking at it here and there. Now its finally done~
I started this around the same time as Ignore It and wanted to continue to delve into the realm of cut paper illustration. Honestly, I was feeling so burnt out and uncreative that I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do. So I was noodling around on the chipboard and ended up sketching out this kitsune mask.
And then inspiration struck.
A long while back when I was in high school, I read a book called The Fox Woman by Kij Johnson. I was instantly drawn to the book by its cover and within its pages I was whisked away to a place that allowed me to be free of the much less wonderful world around me.
So I decided that I wanted to use that memory as a direction for where this piece would go. I drew in the kitsune and began to ink both she and the mask. And when it came time for the silks, I started digging through scraps of paper I have saved. I even used paper tape (the zig zag black pattern) for accents. It was a time consuming process, but a process that allowed me to work through the various tangles of burnout and emotions I was going through.
The final touches were the cherry blossoms which are this lovely pink dyed paper I used a round hole punch on, cut the circles into individual petals and then colored them with colored pencil before gluing them down. Again. Very time consuming, but well worth the effort.
This piece is available for purchase first. Its $400 + shipping, the size is around 8.5 x 11 though I'm not exact on that measurement. If you're interested, just let me know in a comment!
