Well it gets extremely radioactive ☢️ when it reaches criticality and if you are in the same room as it you will get blasted with ionizing radiation. Depending on how close to the Core you are you will either survive, although you still will probably get very sick and have a much higher risk of developing cancer later in life, or you will receive a deadly dose after which you body will slowly fall apart from the inside with an agonizing death being an absolute certainty within a few days.
The comparison doesn't really work here.
The elephants foot was so dangerous because it released an average of about 80 grays per hour, more than enough to kill anyone that entered the room.
The demon core is relatively intert until it's placed into a state of relative criticality, in which case during both accidents when it entered a self-sustaining state, it was quickly removed a few seconds later. However! If we do some basic math here and say it took, lets just do 15 seconds for ease of use to remove the core from this supercritical state even if it was likely shorter. We could take the dosage that "Harry" Krikor Daghlian Jr recieved at roughly 2.0 grays N and 1.1 Gray gamma and say 60*60 for seconds in an hour, 3600, 3600/15 to see what we'd get sustained from it, which would be 240 incidents, 240* 2 = 480 Gy N and 240* 1.1 = 264 Gy Gamma.
This would likely be incorrect as the reaction would not be tampered with and something far worse would happen, but at the very least it's MUCH worse sustained than the elephants foot. This was intended to be used for a nuclear bomb. Nuclear reactors are relatively safe in comparison to these monsters.
Keep in mind the Lethal Dose 50/50 for radiation is 4.5 Gy, meaning both are still extremely dangerous.
