When you do your initial upload, if any dimension of the image is more than 1280 pixels, FA will squish it down to a 1280 pixel wide (or tall) jpg.
However, if you RE-upload the image, that restriction does not exist and it will happily accept a 2000 pixel tall PNG (for that extra crispness without JPG artifacting).
You can find this under the image where it says "Change Submission File". Easy peasy.
