Saw a couple other folks uploading their experiments in SL mesh, and figured I should do the same.
I've been waiting for Second Life to gain mesh import ability, for close to five years now. So when the public beta opened, I jumped at the chance to mess with it.
In actual fact, I jumped the gun, a bit - I started construction of this several months ago, when the public beta was still only a rumor. It's basically a modified version of my old poser figure, with better definition on the muzzle , and stretched a bit to fit the dimensions of my SL avatar. (He's a full two heads taller now)
At present he's not rigged. I've toyed with rigging, but haven't managed to make it work properly in SL. So, for now he's just a statue, in the "pending projects" drawer.
I may try rigging him in poser, when I get some free time to myself.
Yay shiny!

I'm personally just waiting till it's fully implemented before I'll mess with it, but from everything they've said, if you setup the skeleton with the same bone names and around the same shape, you can use all the default animations from SL. Whether that actually works isn't something I've read info on. I've tried making some poser animations for SL and they just came out as disasters so I gave up in frustration, I'm hoping it's not a necessity.
Well, yes and no. The original SL avatar is still there. you'd just use the new alpha masks to make it invisible, then you'd wear a rigged body as an attachment, overtop it. the bones in the rigged attachment would auto-align with the bones in the SL avatar, so it would move with the avatar. At least that's the idea.
Ahh. Well, will it be visible to all players? I remember they released a viewer that would let you put invisible textures on the body, instead of using invisiprims, but that it wouldn't work on the old viewer, so people using the classic viewer would be stuck seeing two bodies. o.o
Yea, that didn't do too good, I used the map and searched it but nothing came up. I just went to SL's site and from there, I end up at Sandbox #33 from their list of mesh enabled sims.
After running around that sim trying to find a rez spot, I went through all the instructions (after troubleshooting why my models wouldn't show up in the preview screen at first) I prep it properly then hit upload. Then some text showing progress in the bottom right corner of the screen pops up, once it goes away so does the uploader screen but no new folder titled mesh or anything. This is quickly becoming tedious >.>
Is there some waiting limit I have to go through first before being able to upload mesh objects? I recall reading somehting about after changing your passcode that after 24hrs I could use it... rather does not make any sense as to why I have to change a passcode inorder to import my account to mesh grid..

Ah, see this is what makes me think something isn't right here, SL is saying it is supposed to make a new folder (if it is the first 'successful' upload) labeled 'Mesh' that all mesh uploads go to.
Did you have to change your passcode just to import your av into the aidit grid?

nope. updating your passcode is just a quickie way to get your inventory updated. the beta grid tends to use an inventory backup that's several months, to a year out of date. Changing your passcode should get you a fresh copy of your current inventory.
Which mesh sim are you in?
