ALSO, I would strongly recommend you find a community of some sort to discuss MSPA happenings, whether it be the MSPA Forums (which are often rather terrifying), the Penny Arcade SE++ MSPA Thread (my personal hangout - also terrifying but usually in an ironic manner intended to make fun of the shippers and terrible romartists who plague the MSPAF), or wherever else (if you have a forum you post at regularly, see if there's a thread there).
Posting in or at least reading a forum/thread dedicated to MSPA can help you understand all the weird plot shit and YOU HATE TIME TRAVEL, tell you about news and things not posted on the main site (like Andrew's twitter and formspring), and let you see fanart ranging from the stunningly beautiful to the absolutely mortifying.
!SHAMELESSPLUG: The PA SE++ thread also has the advantage of bring posted in by most of the admins of the MSPAF and some of the artists who contribute regularly to Homestuck. In particular, we get frequent postings of arts and things from Lexxy, debatably the most hella fucking rad artists on the team. Once in a blue moon, even Andrew himself will grace us with his presence for a few posts before being scared off by our barrage of questions (at least that's what we're pretty sure happens)
In addition, a lot of our posters also peruse other communites such as the MSPAF, the 4chan MSPA thread, and MSPAchan, so they can filter out and post the best (and sometimes the worst) of those boards so the rest of us don't have to trudge through the rest of the murk.
Due to the pre-animation update lull, however, now would be a somewhat odd time to start posting - not on your account, but on the threads. When the updates stop, the MSPA thread goes to some... interesting places. (e.g. furtrollsonas (TOTALLY IRONIC I SWEAR) and arguments with Bill Bolin (he's a guy who did some music and then flipped his shit so he got kicked off the music team and his songs in the animations were replaced and thusly the reason Album 4 does not have 13 tracks)).
