A magnificently glowing work from
Raxrie of my newest dragon! They so kindly fixed up the dragon and made their details a lot clearer. Just look how fantastic they came out! I absolutely recommend checking her out to see more of her work! This is the SFW verson of their ref sheet. For the full version, click here!
Artwork is © Raxrie - please go fave the original here!
Character & design © me, Emberell.
Note to artists on the designs on their body/wings: Like the mists the dragon comes from, they change and flow depending on how/when the dragon is seen. So please, please don't be intimidated by them! Feel free to reinterpret or redesign them as best suits your needs!
Velus is a nebulous figure, wreathed in mystical, otherworldly fog. The dragon served as a great Guardian of one of their world's magical fonts, a place where pure magicka and elemental energy bled into the world. In the core of their overgrown bog, they kept greedy adventurer and rabid beast alike in check, keeping the balance of the natural world. Few could claim to know any more, as there were none who had an audience with the dragon. Yet, as the cycles turned, something about the guardian dragon's behavior changed. When they surfaced from the mists, there was a powerful glittering twinkle in their eyes. A piercing and intelligent gaze, more than one could attribute to the wild intelligence Guardians were known to possess. Rumors lie over the great swamp like the very mists that shroud this guardian, that one might gain an audience with them, though to what end no one can agree on....
Velus is a bit of a different character from my usual sort. They are genderfluid by nature - their shifting mists can make them male one day, and female the next. As such, their usual preferred pronouns are They/Them, though they enjoy being addressed by the correct binary pronouns should one happen to know them at the time. In this example, Velus is neither, which can happen with similar frequency to them bearing aspects of both genders. Perhaps the most challenging aspect of this comes into play with those who intend to get [i]intimate[/] with them, as otherwise outwardly nothing else changes. Overall, however, this dragon encapsulates a lot of draconic design that speaks to me personally. Softly padded paws, thick soft fluff, a scaly chest and tummy, and radiantly glittering. ... It does remind me, however, I need to get artwork for some of my -simpler- dragons, as I tend to be very fond of playing the more stereotypical western and eastern sorts.
