And the last of my weekend quick sketches from  rjbartrop is this one of Gabrielle, which I thought to get drawn in part because I was thinking of wings, and I don't really have many winged characters.

Gabrielle was someone I originally created for a street-level superhero idea; someone whose primary motivation was getting people out of bad situations. An orphan who grew up on the streets as much as anyplace else, she wanted to save others from having to go through what she had gone through. She worked with a few other 'guardian angels' to do things like smuggle people back out of human trafficking situations and find safehouses for others. Some of her activities eventually earned her the ire of people who were interested in keeping people desperate for their own purposes, and eventually she was led into a trap, ambushed, and left for dead.

It didn't stick.

Believing she still had a task to perform, she came back and continued much the same as she did before, albeit now with the ability to generate semi-physical wings that allow her to fly (but which still pass through her jacket), along with a sword which can perform psychic attacks as well as physical. For all that she tends to think of herself as an angel returned to Earth, she's definitely not the holier-than-thou type, instead continuing to play the 'guardian angel' role to the hilt, helping those who most needed help. As to whether she was an actual angel, well, not really, but the concept certainly influenced how she acted and how she used her new abilities.

I ended up roleplaying her for a while with  newtypex, and she eventually got caught up in greater events, and passed on a lot of her street-level work to others while shouldering other burdens. Sometimes a higher power needs access to a lower-level viewpoint to truly understand the consequences, after all...
