A hypno-TF tale inspired by a suggestion from the incredible
Ethcat! Check them out when you get the chance!
“So this is the 'incredible awesome new theme park' you wanted me to see so badly, Al?” Mike asked as he turned to his friend and roommate.
The man in question grinned rather excitedly. “Yeah, isn't it epic-looking? Hurry up, let's go in! I can't wait!”
Mike sighed as his friend practically sprinted toward the entrance; looking at the gate itself, there didn't seem to be much to get excited about. A rather jungle-y looking massive wooden gate decorated with palms and other tropical flora, with a banana-shaped sign titled “Monkeyland”. It gave the appearance of a children's playplace at a fast food joint more than it did a theme park. From a distance, Mike could hear hooting and howling of monkeys beyond the gates. Do they have a zoo or something in there? Al never liked zoos... Mike pondered. Indeed, Alan was normally quite the stoic type all around. Then that very morning he had stormed into their shared apartment raving about a new theme park he'd heard about from some crank organ guy on the street. He'd never seen his friend so excited about anything. At first Mike had turned down the invitation, but upon watching a video recording of the organ player in question—a tall, trenchcoated man with a monkey mask playing “Pop Goes the Weasel”--he suddenly felt intrigue, though he wasn't sure why. Perhaps it was nothing but morbid curiosity. Or perhaps it was just plain boredom. Either way, he had agreed to at least spend a day exploring the place with Al. As the tune in the video faded from his mind, though, he began to wonder why he ever agreed to come to such a silly-looking place. Well, may as well try it out while I'm here...
Upon entering the gate, he noticed a distinct absence of a ticket booth; in fact, a sign encouraged people to walk right on in and have fun. Beyond the sign, the park looked more like a full-on jungle with a simple path, with no rides or attractions immediately in sight—though Mike assumed those were simply hidden by this unnecessarily elaborate entrance path. Above it all, the hooting continued unabated.
Al stood in front of Mike, smiling widely, practically bouncing in place. “See? Doesn't this place look fun?”
Mike was about to respond in the negative when he suddenly noticed something; amidst the hooting of monkeys, he heard a melody playing from somewhere. He couldn't quite place it, but he heard enough to tell that it was rather bouncy...and strangely enticing. Maybe this is worth giving a chance, he thought. “Uh, sure thing, Al. Why don't you show me around?”
One thing that struck Mike immediately was the nature of the attractions; all of them seemed to be simple playground-like structures with climbing bars, jungle gyms, rope swings, and other similar things. Ordinarily, such things would not have been much interest to Mike, but something about the place made them seem... charming, somehow. The music was a little louder, and while he still couldn't quite make out what it was he found himself enjoying it a bit. In fact, it had distracted him to the point where he had missed Alan running toward the nearest “playground”. As Mike approached the attraction, he spotted a hut-like structure with a cast member—dressed in an elaborate monkey costume, complete with mask—handing out bananas. The music rang in his ears a bit, and suddenly Mike felt hungry, even though he'd never really cared for bananas.
“Hey,” he said, approaching the stand. “Uh, how much?”
“Heeheeookookook!” The cast member chortled, with monkeylike hoots added in as they handed him a banana. “No charge! Just enjoy, ook ook ook!”
That's weird... Mike thought as he accepted the banana. This place seems a bit sus—
The music stopped his thoughts in his tracks as it caught his attention again. This time, he could fully discern it—and recognized it as the same sound from the video. A crank-organ version of “Pop Goes the Weasel”. The tune was even more enticing now that he knew what it was; how clever, a song about a monkey in a place about monkeys! He liked it so much he completely forgot his previous train of thought. This place isn't so bad after all! That playground looks like a lot of fun!
Peeling the banana and eating as he walked, he found himself humming along to the tune. The playground was quite elaborate, and absolutely massive, with practically skyscraper-high wooden playground platforms, nets, slides, swings, and monkey bars.
Heehee... monkey bars! Bars for monkeys! Taking a bite of the banana, Mike approached a rope net, but frowned as he discovered a problem. He didn't want to drop his banana, but he really, really, really wanted to climb the net and start playing. Suddenly, as the music wafted into his ears again, a solution hit him: I'll take off my shoes and socks! Better grip that way, and I can keep my banana! With a wide smile and a giggle, he did just that, and leapt onto the net, not noticing that his jump was a bit higher than he was usually capable of. He giggled again at the thought of his current situation. I'm climbing like a monkey with a banana! He turned to look to his left, and saw none other than Alan, who was in a similar situation, and who wore a similar grin as well. “Look at me,” Mike said loudly and proudly, “I'm like a monkey!”
Alan laughed back. “Me too! Monkey monkey monkey! Ook ook ook!”
“Monkey monkey monkey, ook ook ook!” Mike parroted as both he and his friend burst into laughter. Neither one noticed the additional hair on their face, or the growing hair on their hands and feet. The two of them climbed, leapt, swung, and scampered through the playground, giggling and laughing like children—so much fun!—and all the while the music continued playing, growing ever more wonderful to Mike's ears. As time went on, though, and Mike finished his banana, he noticed it was becoming difficult to play and move around. Scratching his head, he struggled to think of why... and then noticed the problem. Clothes in the way. No shirt, no pants. No clothes, no problem! No sooner had the thought entered his mind than he immediately began tearing off his clothes, his sense of shame completely forgotten. Alan, too, had ditched his clothes, and the two continued their fun. As they reached the top of the jungle gym, they looked over the park; before them lay an endless jungle, without even the slightest hint of human civilization.
It was that sight which snapped Mike out of his reverie. Suddenly, the events of the past hour or so came flooding back to him. I've been acting like a monkey! Something about this place... He turned to tell Alan... only to stare in shock at his friend's new appearance. Though Alan's face was still mostly human, fur had spread all over his body, his feet had become handlike, and a tail had erupted from his backside—and was visibly lengthening by the second. In horror, Mike looked down at his own body, and noticed the same changes. They weren't just acting like monkeys, they were becoming monkeys!
“Al, we have to get out of here!”
“Why-ook? No fun have, ookook?”
The hoot from his friend rang through his head, and his mouth opened unbidden as he let out sounds of his own. “Ookook! Wait, Al, don't do that—!”
“Do-ook whatook?”
“Ook—Stop, you're making me...”
Alan grinned widely and bounced in place. “Oook ook ook ook, Mike! Ook ook ook ook!”
“No-ook! Stop-ook, Me not-ook, no, I'm not—”
Mike's formerly human friend continued hooting at him, eliciting more hoots in response. Each hoot made his head tingle pleasantly, which only made him want to do it more. Only his remaining human mind kept him from giving in to that growing desire to join in, to become a monkey and have fun, so much fun like a silly monkey...
“Ook around the Ookety-ook, the Monkey ooked the human!”
The song continued, now with lyrics. Alan ooked along in tune and time with the song, forcing both into Mike's head, making all of it impossible to ignore.
“The human joined the ookety-fun! Ook goes the monkey!”
The incessant ooking, along with the music, finally broke through his remaining resistance as the song looped back.
“Ook around the ookety-ook...”
Mike shook his head, but the words slipped out. “The monkey ooked the human?”
Alan leapt in joy, hooting along. “Oo-ookook ooked the ookety-ook!”
“OOK GOES THE MONKEY!” Mike blurted out loudly. Suddenly his worries and cares vanished. Fun song, sing along! Ook along! “Ook arook the Ookety-ook, oo-Monkey ook the ook-ook!” Mike didn't know how long he and Alan spent singing the song together, ooking as one, hopping around happily. It could have been minutes, or even hours. They simply didn't have enough brain power to comprehend time anymore. All they could think about was ooking, hopping, laughing, playing, swinging, bananas, monkey monkey monkey monkey!
As the changes swept over them, the crew member from the stall looked up at all the various monkeys—all of them formerly human—climbing and clambering and playing without a care in the world. Removing their mask and costume, the three monkeys leapt off each others' shoulders and chuckled. Closing time was upon the jungle, but in the morning the gate to the human world would open again... and with more “advertisement”, they'd be sure to get more friends to join in the fun, until they brought the joy of monkeyness to the whole world.
