I can only see this through the lens of "Biggles: Adventures in Time", like poor Daniel's being randomly dragged across time against his will to help his Time-Twin Sgt Thott survive otherwise hillariously deadly encounters.

I actually was ALMOST the owner of an M3 White Scout car back in the early 80s. From the neighbor of Iranian hostage Sgt Jimmy Lopez in Globe Arizona. He had it for $1500 and I drove up from Tucson, looked the vehicle over . I recall it was made in March of 1942. It needed fresh tires, a serious tune up and lots of TLC. It still had the gun rail for the M2, mounts for the 1919A3s. The seats I recall could use some fresh padding as well. But it ran. I gave the guy a deposit of $500 and said I'll be back in 3 weeks to pick it up. I came back 3 weeks later with a friend and his one ton truck and we were going to rent a trailer and tow it back. And to my horror...no M3 was seen.
Turned out just mere days before, some rich California collector stumbled across it as he was on his way to Lake Roosevelt and offered the owner $5000 cash on the spot. The owner told the guy I was coming up in a few days to pick it up, but was literally handed $5K in cash as a "Take it or leave it! Money talks, bullshit walks!" And had it towed out literally that day.
He refunded my money and tossed in an extra $500 for my 'Troubles'. Last I heard, the M3 was restored and sold at Auction a few years ago for around $70K.
I was -This close-....so close. I ended up with a 1943 Ford Jeep a few months after losing the M3.
