This is an example of the country that the Allied soldiers ran into immediately after coming off the beaches. What made matters worse was the fact that the Germans fortified each one, making progress slow and costly. The soldiers first tried cutting up the beach obsticles and ramming the sides, but found it too costly so, they eventually just used the tanks to puncture the side of the hedgerow, and then packed it with TNT. Allied command estimated the soldiers were using 1000 pounds per day and deeming it too costly, told the soldiers to stop, an example of materials being thought more valuable than the men.
