Not to nit pik Froyst but the term is really Yojinbo.

Yojimbo's a perfectly accepted spelling, especially given the name of the comic book series is "Usagi Yojimbo". I'm staring at my framed 1st edition issue of Fantagraphics' Usagi Yojimbo vol. 1 issue 1, signed by Sakai himself as I type this :p

But to be literal: Usagi first showed up in Albedo, which I'm still trying to track down a copy of.

In Japanese Some times Ns turn into Ms and well it happens with lotsa letters... Both are good enough for us dum Gaijin. =P

I know all of them except Mr. Afro there. Kinda suprized you wouldn't use Mugen or Gin from Champloo.

Afro Samurai. Started out as a Toy Character in like 99 in Japan. Then the concept of the toy got so popular it got its own anime last year, and Sam Jackson did the voice in american Dub, and DC now is doing the new Updated toys.

Out of the bunch, I have to say Kenshin would be most suited for the role. Chances are he'll decline it, so the 2nd up would be Usagi or Samurai Jack. The only one I don't really know is the one beside Usagi. I think he's from the Tekken series, but his character.. I don't know much about it.

It is I, Yosimitsu.

Basicly he was a in the soul Caliber serries, a robin hood like charater.

In Teken, was a demon.

Bunny is Usagi (which means bunny) from the ORIGINAL TMNT (teenage mutant ninja turtles) carton series (though he cameos in the more recent one)

the guy in the mask is Yoshimistu from the Soul Edge/Calibur serieses (and also Tekken)

and the one below the afro is (as mention before) sam jackson in Samurai form...so to speak

Usagi pre-dates the true original Ninja Turtles comics by at least a year (maybe 2 years IIRC). Thus predates his first appearance in that mass-marketed-pile-o-shit Turtles cartoon in by 5 or so years.

He did voice Afro, and his ninja imaginary friend. Afro does talk, but not much.

Honestly, I'm leaning towards either Kenshin Himura or Jack as the leaders since they've already proven themselves as born leaders...can't say the same for Miyamoto Usagi, although he's been around longer than most (if not all) of the others.

The Bravest fencer is obvious reference to Musashi, which gives the aura of Katsushiro

Jack is the honor-bound one and seems to me to give the impression of being the new Gorombei

Kenshin is the gentle one, and possibly the new Shichiroji

Afro Samurai is the rebel, and seems to be the new Kyuzo

Haomaru would be the swordfighting god and would be Kambei

Usagi would be the furry one and seems to me like a Heihachi

Yoshimitsu, while he does look like an ogre, is in fact NOT out of this world!

He's a regular mortal samurai for a distinctive Japanese clan.

A better analogy would be comparing him to Goemon Ishikawa.

To be honest, I don't think you can transpose these characters flawlessly like that. I mean, so many of these characters carry the qualities of so many other characters.

To me, though:

Jack could be Kanbei as he has the leadership experience and has a strong understanding of tactics. He has also in the show has trained a village to defend itself from bandits of sorts.

Kenshin is more like Heihachi to me. Largely because he is the one who washes clothes and chops wood and all manner of chores that was essentially up Heihachi's street. Of course, he also fill in the role of Kyuzo due to his Battousai personality as well as Kambei due to experience and the desire to no longer fight.

Afro Samurai, being the pure fencing techinician, is a relatively flawless analog for Kyuzo. Though I haven't seen the show that much.

Haomaru, based on what I've seen, feels the firebrand and therefore would be Kikuchiyo.

Usagi, based on what little I remember, could be either Gorobei or Shichiroji. The same could be said for the fellow in the oni mask whose name escapes me since I don't play Tekken.

Musashi is Katsuchan largely by default.

The only one in there that threw me off was Jack. Usagi Yojimbo is obviouse, I got lucky with Afro, I happened to have read an article on Afro Samurai a few months back, Kenshins pretty obvious with that damn hair, and Ive played the video games of the other two.

Thats Afro Samurai. He first was just a Toy from Japan. SOme Famus comic creator or something just had an idea for a Black Samurai (And aparently their might have been black samurai in real Japan cool) and had a toy made of his idea in 98 or 99.

after a few years people thought the idea was cool and it was made into an Anime last year and dubed by Samual Jackson and shown on SPIKE TV this year. Pritty great show, DC comics is making NEW toys of afro Samurai.

First, the samurai from left to right. And no, I did NOT cheat!

Usagi Yojimbo - The rabbit samurai from an alternate world, created by Stan Sakai and featured in the comic book of the same name. Has crossed paths with the Ninja Turtles on more than one occasion.

Yoshimitsu - From the Tekken series and Soul Calibur series of fighting games, Yoshimitsu is a samurai of the Manji Clan who lost his right arm and had it replaced with a prosthetic.

Himura Kenshin - From the manga/anime series "Rurouni Kenshin", Kenshin has given up his ruthless ways in favor of sword fighting that doesn't end in fatalities.

"Samurai Jack" - From the creator of Dexter's Laboratory and the Power Puff Girls, Genndy Tartakovsky, Samurai Jack is a samurai flung into the future my the evil Aku, who uses the time lost to take over Earth and planets beyond.

Musashi - From the Squaresoft (pre-Square-Enix) game "Brave Fencer Musashi", this spiky blue haired samurai was warped to a mysterious world when a kingdom was in danger. Pissed off at the summons, he intends to get the job done and over with so he can go home.

Haohmaru - From the SNK fighting game series "Samurai Shodown", Haohmaru is a samurai who studied under master "Nicotine Caffeine" and spends his time traveling the land looking for strong opponents.

Afro Samurai - In a futuristic kind of past, one man by the name of "Afro" is out to kill a man named "Justice" so he can get revenge on him for killing his father. Voiced by Samuel "Mother Fucking Snakes on a Mother Fucking Plane" L. Jackson, he is one bad ass dude.

3) My reasoning

Now here, it could be that I'm mistaken and have Haohmaru and Afro Samurai mixed up. However, Haohmaru is not really "out of this world" in any way. Afro Samurai on the other hand IS, as his world is really kinda trippy. But then again, if Afro Samurai becomes "Number One", then he also is said to have powers akin to a God.

Another possibility is that Haohmaru is the Wreckless Rebel, Yoshimitsu is out of this world, and Afro-Samurai is the Sword-Fighting God. Of course, that assumes that Yoshimitsu isn't human, which is 100% not true. He's actually a regular mortal human being who gives to the poor.

And that's your lesson for today!

Leader? hmm... It's got to be Jack, he has epic training and royal ancestry. Most of the other characters are followers or rebels. I don't know Afro Samurai's personality.

I really ain't seein' Haomaru as a sword-fighting god. I'm sorry. I've played the dude in many games and it will be quite some time before dat boy dere becomes a deity. I see him more as the rebel, Kikuchiyo, because he's got a devil-may-care attitude and he only fights to improve his skills.

Its a good picture. Interesting to see them all in a diffrent style. The only thing i think its off about it is the fact that Yoshimitsu dosnt belong here. He is a ninja. He has been a Manji Ninja since his very first appearance in both tekken and in soul claibur.

Im actually suprised to see no one mention this yet.

So technically, if ShoNuff had the time, he could probably replace Yoshimitsu with Mugen or Jin from Samurai Champloo, depending on if he did this in Photoshop and layered the characters.
And saved the PSD file too, obviously.

THough one of the Original 7 Samurai wasn't a "real" Samurai Ether. Just a Guy with a sword. BUt they took him anyway due to his fighting spirit and honor and such.

hmmm... this is interesting...no... It's awesome but... are there any other major Samura/ninja Teams that could be remade like this? I mean, I'm thinking Ninja to balance out the sheer density of Bushi (samurai) in the picture.

Lessee, I can recognize Yoshimitzu, Usagi Yojimbo, Samurai Jack, Haomaru, Kenshin Himura, and I can't remember the other two.

Damn, and here I thought Musashi was a forgotten character...his younger self from Brave Fencer Musashi, he was more of a punk and the game was alot better than the second one, and yeah I can imagine why Sho didn't put Mugen or Gin in from Samurai Champloo, since well...they'd probably try to kill (or at least mugen would) all of the other samurai members.

i dont know. I didnt think the Musashi from the second game is the same as musashi from the first. I mean..i know its suposed to be a sequal but there so dissimilar ide like to think there diffrent samurai as to not taint the badassedness of the original musashi x.x...also cuase the second game never refers to them as being the same charicters i dont think..least i dont remeber seeing so. I think of the 2 games being a Final Fantasy kinda thing...same series but each instalment is unique without ties to the predesesor.

I see Samurai Jack, Musashi, and Kenshin.. but I dunno who the others are.
