I turned off my television 9/10/01. Yeah, okay, so the timing might have been bad, but still. I learned to read Yahoo news every day after that little mess up, but I'm still better for it. It's hard to do at first, but I will never look back. I miss a show or two that's worth watching "Invader Zim," "Mongrels," but still...way worth it.

I have stopped watching tv period for about a year now- at first it was hard....but now I am free! I actually felt ill when I went to a friends to watch the lost finale- the commercials are so loud and bright and just over the top to stimulating for me brains! It sounds like I am joking but I AM NOT- i never realized how annoying the ads are- how full of crap the news is and all the other crap that bugs me till I turned the tv OFF. Plus-- DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH STUFF I GET DONE NOW??

Ok I do have a xbox and I do watch netflix- but the NEWS is where the biggest change was-

I grew up in Colorado- pretty mid western- news people wore suits and for the4 most part reported stuff that was happening.....when I moved to Los Angeles I was shocked at the way the news was like...FOX worse of all - they sugar coated then stories or skipped the bad ones totally (they dont even want to tell people its gonna rain- and when they do they are all sad and looking to the up side of well its gonna be sunny friday- these same people cry when we are in a drought and have to conserve water!)

Then there is the fact that the news reporters out here are dressed like they are going to go out clubbing..at 6 AM IN THE MORNING. Then they started moving the counter they were behind lower and lower....now you don't have a person behind a desk telling you about the war/earthquake/crash....you have some over done whore sitting on a stool showing her stupid legs telling you about a lost puppy/double rainbow or some other stupid horse crap story. Am I the only one bugged by this?

Of course I am learning that the web news channels can be just as bad. When the trifecta of doom was happening in Indonesia- NONE of the los angeles area news sites had it on their front page! I only saw it on Yahoo- YAHOO!! WTF???

You are on the road to true freedom. It starts by turning off the propaganda machines (radio, television, big-studio movies, ads on the internet, etc.)

Watch out though, you're going to find a lot of people will actually think very poorly of you for not watching television. Just remember, they're slaves, brainwashed victims of propaganda who can't think for themselves. Pretty easy to dismiss their criticisms that way.

You see, I have no problem with freedom of speech, its what our country was founded on. But our country was also founded on the freedom of press. If we turn fox news off then that is taking away one of the rights that made this country great.

I am gonna disagree-- they do have freedom of speech BUT as a news channel/show they have to stick to FACTS. Arguing that they should be able to say what they want is like saying they can totally make shit up and post it on their news sites as NEWS!

There needs to be a code of ethics for any organization that is reporting NEWS and labeling themselves as news shows. Just like how if I was selling a product on a tv commercial I can't tell you it cures cancer and gives everyone a raging boner unless that is TRUE- or I would be sued into next year! The same should go for news shows. They have such power over how people think and vote and such- they have to be held to an honor deserving of this position of Authority.

Reporting is becoming a lost art- what ever happened to researching? Is this all because of the speed and choices on the web for news and that news shows on tv feel the need to reel in viewers regardless the means?

Fox was actually brought to court recently and they won because of their First Amendment rights. The point of this organization is to get people to turn off the Fox channel on their tv's, because of how they report.

Doesn't the fact that they advertise themselves and broadcast themselves as news negate that whole shit about talk show crap. They are not a talk show by any means of the imagination, Oprah Winfrey is a talk show, Fox News is a news broadcast and therefore should abide by rules set in place for news. I see nothing but biased slander every time I flip across the channel Partisan to whatever conservative group is "fighting the good fight" at that time.

I will agree with Mav up there though, Fox "not you" has made it political. They cater specifically to Republicans and take the piss out of anything that any one of them doesn't agree with. Sensationalism is the name of the game for them. They're little better than the Third Reich's propaganda.

They can talk all the mad shit they want, that's true. But you cannot claim false advertisement. They receive special privilege and consideration by claiming to be news. They can obtain private documentation and wave freedom of the press to free themselves from the justice that would befall the "common man" who can say the exact same shit they can. I promise you if you go into a crime scene as a civilian with someone from fox news, they will be allowed to stay while you are shooed off or even arrested should you refuse to leave. They wave false pretense to get away with things and receive special treatment. If it was Fox Talk Show, every one of their anchors could be tossed back just as easily as the next schmuck without a badge.

Spouting bullshit, and gaining access to sensitive information under false guises to spout bullshit are two very completely different things. One is a right, the other is a criminal act punishable by law. They are not one in the same. If you had bothered to read what I had linked you to on the FCC's site itself, you will find that parading as something you are clearly not is an offense. That is the law, not an opinion. Read the print and find that your second argument is mere faltering.

Take paypal for instance... People treat it like a bank, however it is not one. Nor can it claim to be one. It can rob you blind without facing the consequences put forth to banks. Banks cannot seize your funds, paypal can. If paypal were to advertise itself as a bank it would need to go through proper resources and follow guidelines set forth for them operating as a bank.

A news broadcast operating under guidelines set forth for professional journalism is a far cry from a talk show hosted by a bunch of belligerent jackasses. Said jackasses can say whatever they damn well please and not give a damn about twisting it however they choose. Professional journalism or a "News Station" has to abide by unbiased and equal reporting methods. It is in "The Law" not "An Opinion". If they claim freedom of the press, they have to abide by laws set up for the press. That way you don't have a bunch of single minded opportunists uncovering potentially destructive truth about an individual and take it out of context in order to further an agenda... They can say what they want, but they have to pay for their actions and not hide behind a badge to cover their asses when they're caught.

I think also it's high time for the Democrats AND the Republicans to hang up their careers and clean sweep the office. We've all gotten to that point and it's more obvious everyday. All it does is breed an angry cynic like myself that would rather watch it all go up in flames.

and before you go off on a tangent again about that kind of mess... Read the protocol and regulations set aside by the FCC. the information set aside for stating blatant ignorance is covered under news distortion and political broadcasting. For professional journalism which Fox News claims to be, they have protocol to abide by on top of their First Amendment rights. Failure to do so, in a society that were actual governed by law, they would be under investigation. However since they get away with it since it is such a broad spectrum, they continue to do so unchecked.
