I love starscapes and art that borders between fantasy and sci-fi. I wanted to paint something simple, with simple colors and details, but it didn't stay simple..ended up having to buy an airbrush for the background because the paint layers were thicker than the board its on. Gradients like that are HARD with a paint brush!

What I see: The pair draw themselves close together as they look into the glow of the not-so-distant giant blue star that their planet revolves around. Due to the distances involved and the atmospheric conditions at this time of year, the rising sun does not outshine the other stars in the sky until well after mid-morning. For now, everything is bathed in cool blue light that still warms the fur. Shortly, the sun's warmth would make it very warm but for an hour or so each morning and evening the sun shone comfortably against the backdrop of stars.
Amazing work! I was lucky enough to see this in person at the Further Confusion art show, and I was kind of blown away. The smooth sky, well-composed scene, and deep shadows all make this a really great piece. I'm really impressed by how you got so much color into the art, but managed to make the environment feel so dark. Thanks for sharing it! <3
