Good one! A little more ripple in the water around where the tail enters and leaves would be a good addition if you do something like this again. Also, now you seem to have reached a good point at drawing both character and environment...Time to look at more interactivity between the two...Things like grass clumps pulled up/mud where the gator climbed up or is bracing his foot in the grass.

I tell ya... anymore, I can't see any crocodilian species (crocs; gators, which is what I'm assuming this fellow is; caiman; etc.) without thinking of Steve Irwin.
Sorry, don't know if that bugs ya or anything... he was a personal hero for me because of his passion for life and conservation, so it's not a bad reminder at all. :3 Miss that bloke, I do I do!
