Toon paint is highly unlikely to alter their overall personality or memories, but if you keep layering it on, eventually a person has trouble feeling their real body underneath all of it, and it can lead to fractures in the mind where they start to believe they really are what they see in the mirror day after day.
The constant harassment from the hyenas and reinforcement of the new status as a hyena toon certainly won't help them and it's possible that more and more layers are applied until the sense of taking it off never comes....
At that point, they are gone and might even fight against someone trying to confuse them that they were once human, even well, as hyenas tend to do, laugh in their faces.
