Alright, this was a short story that I wrote as part of a little "writing spree"; the idea was to draw a word (or two) from a box with a large random assortment, and then spend a few minutes writing based on what you drew. I drew "Contemplative" and "Identity", and put about 15 minutes into writing this. I actually got the story finished in that time, and then revised and polished it a bit later.
I've had this idea of kitsune marriage in my head for a long time, and had the kitsune couple of Satomi and Hiroto as well, so that seemed like a good place to start for the theme of "contemplative identity". Once I got going, the story almost wrote itself!

(And, if anybody wants, I can put up the original, unrevised version in my scraps, for comparison)
And, I didn't fit it into either draft of the story, still not sure about this being how it worked out, but I was thinking about how kitsune gain magical power as they age and gain experience and wisdom, so I thought that as Satomi was headed downstairs or snuggling with her husband, she would get her seventh tail as she sorted through the matters of her identity and the mask related and compared in that regard to her natural face.
