Here’s the High Grade 1/144 RX-78-2 (Gundam The Origin version). 🙂 This kit is, in my opinion, one of the best kits of 2020! Easily one of my favorites that I worked on of that year. 🙂 Gundam The Origin is one of those series I’ve only seen bits and pieces of, but it’s certainly brought us some pretty great Gunpla. I’ve always been a fan of the RX-78-2, and I really like this spin on the design.

You can definitely see some differences between it and the RX-78-2 that we’re more familiar with. Mainly in terms of the weapons. This version has a lot more weapons, including a shoulder cannon, arm mounted vulcan guns, and two different types of blasters in the torso section. I won’t lie, I was pretty put off by the shield being upside down, but it’s actually designed so you can have it right side up, so once I learned that, I became a lot more enthusiastic about picking up this kit. One particularly cool thing about this kit is that you actually get pieces to make one of two different versions: the Early Type (seen on the box) and the Middle Type (which more closely resembles the classic RX-78-2). Because this is supposed to be the one from Gundam The Origin, I built mine to be the Early Type, but if you like the classic version better, you have the option to build it as that one. I’ll be honest with you guys, I seriously can’t find a thing about this kit that I don’t like. It’s just that well designed and well made. :) If you’ve been thinking about picking this kit up, I absolutely recommend it! The detail and articulation on this kit are guaranteed not to disappoint!
