
I don't much approve of torture. Heck, I'm a member of Amnesty International. 97% of torture cases are unjustified. But I will admit that the 3% exists.

Exactly, The torturer goes in knowing what he wants to hear, and the victim suffers until they say that thing, regardless if that's true or not.
I'm still not so sure that 'standard' interrogation tactics are that effective, unless there are three 'interrogators,' one is going in to do the actual information pumping, without prior knowledge of the case or what the 'subject' is expected to know; one observing the interrogation but not participating, but with full knowledge of the case and what is expected to get from the subject; and one watching the subject to determine when he has told everything he knows, and is starting to make things up to 'please' the interrogator and end the interrogation.
