This excellent piece was done by
badcoyote of my Sun and Flame God, Max. Although I'm planning on taking the art and character design in a different direction soon, I felt this piece warranted a place here, as it's masterfully done and many of the elements present in it will be carrying over the the character's final design.
Max has come a looong way since his first debut, and for anyone that remembers the pics done by Fenrir, they'll note how much the story's concept and character designs have been evolving over the last year or two.

Wow, a very nice character design...and transition, thinking back on Fenrir's renditions. =D
Badcoyote rendered the magma-like body well; the fire trails look especially nice, and I like the subtle blue portions. ^^
The tipped-chain looks good wrapped around his right arm and held in his left; the sheen it has from the fire is excellent.
If I may ask, what's his personality like? :3

He's a hothead, no pun intended. He's the son of a powerful arms dealer, but watched his mother murdered in cold blood when he was very young. Since then, he grew up believing in his father's creed of power-those who have it survive, those who don't, don't. He vowed never to be powerless again, and has spent time on the streets as well as with the warring factions and guerrilla fighters his father deals to, learning to become the toughest fighter, the smartest leader, and the hardest person he can be. Though he has a soft spot for poetry (and is actually a pretty decent street-slam poet) and for kittens, he never exposes personal weakness and is ruthless and bloodthirsty in combat.
Alrighty; seems like a pretty solid character bio. Now, this molten feline is from your "Avalon" story, correct? I understand that he wields this "legendary fire god artifact," but can I assume that that's the source of his elemental power and this portrayed form? I'm unfamiliar with the ability system (if I may use that nomenclature) of your tale, so I'm rather curious. ^^
Also, it's good to hear from you again; I hope you've been well. Honestly, I'd love to continue delving into your story, if you ever choose to resubmit that prologue of yours and continuing submitting working chapters. The hand of fiction produces many styles, and I'm willing to diligently read the hands of others to get me started with my own. After all, from what I remember reading, you seem like a competent thus credible literary fellow. =D

The story's prologue and opening chapters have changed considerably as my writing has matured. And no, the artifact is not the source of his power. Each of the gods are genetically enhanced humans who are able to serve as biological hosts for the mythic powers of their ancestors by tapping into the psionic power of the collective human unconscious. They're each tailor-made, from a scientific perspective, to be able to wield the powers of their legendary lineage.
Each "new god" in Avalon is a descendant or possesses a past life from similar gods (all fire/sun gods belong to one genealogy for example) and they share powers and abilities with their ancestors, as well as similar destinies and personality archetypes. Max, a jealous, power-hungry, destructive but not purely evil god, has the traits most commonly associated with other sun gods in myth.
As for the artifact (or artifacts, since there are several in the story)-Avalon takes the approach that the sacred weapons are as much a physical part of the myths as the gods themselves. Thor isn't truly Thor without his hammer, and the hammer is just dead weight without Thor. For Max, his artifact is the Chain of Prometheus-one of the only artifacts associated with a fire god and one which has personal resonance to him as an on again off again prison inmate.
In the story, all such artifacts (including Excalibur/Sword of Michael and the Spear of Destiny) are made of a unique, non-native metal which responds only to the specific psionic resonance of its rightful owner. Only a fire god would output a psychic wavelength that the Chains would respond to, for example, and thus only Max can use them (this also explains why only Arthur, and later Trevelan, can pull Excalibur from the stone). Once wielded by their mythic counterpart, the weapons' potential is unlocked-they can enhance powers, change shape to a limited extent (usually in size or detail, not in weapon type) and cannot be broken by conventional means.

I'm not trolling you. :P
I'm saying that this fire-character looks like Ragnaros, the Firelord, from World of Warcraft.

I play Warcraft; however, the statement and implied allegation is rather insulting. Ragnaros looks like a myriad of other fire characters who predate him, and the design for this character was already envisioned a few years before WoW was even released. Please do not simply look at fire and magma and imply a connection to another fire-based character where there is none, especially considering that the two are actually quite dissimilar in terms of anatomy, theme, and overall design.
