Here's Mocha, a day after her latest surgery. She's wrapped up to keep her from trying to pull out her stitches.
She was very scared and out of it from the pain medicine, so I had to let her sleep in my lap all night until I could bring her back to the vet. She'd already managed to undue some of her stitches again, thus why she's wrapped up like a hot dog.
She slept tucked against my arm for a few hours, making happy noises as I pet her.

She's currently in a little cone with her body unwrapped - we can't stop her from nibbling on the very bottom of her incision site and stitches - but we are under 24/7 mocha watch. When I'm awake, bf's asleep. When he's awake, I'm asleep.
I have to hand feed her a bit, the cone prevents her from really using her arms to hold her food. One arm is covered in staples so it's painful for her to use.
She's eating baby food, her usual rat chow, and plenty of treats.

Males are fat and lazy, females never stop moving unless they're asleep.
The choice is lap rat versus hyper rat.
Males are aggressive to new males they didn't grow up with, and tend to be greasy. You can get them neutered to cut down on aggression.
Females are commonly plagued by mammary tumors after 18 months - and can have multiple tumors. Males too can get them, but less likely.
Rats live 3 - 5 years, but often die after age 2 of tumors or illness.
Rats are highly social, they need friends at a young age. They like to live in colonies.
Do you research before ever getting a pet you aren't experienced with. It helps immensely. =3

I always research before I even make a decision. I've been watching what you say on Mocha and have simply fell in love with that rat. Best of luck to her and her recovery plus ya'lls sleeping schedules.
But after I look into it more I'll decide eventually plus I live with my mom and have to ask first. Its either a rat or some type of small critter. Next I was thinking hedgehog.
