The Normality of Hershel Dweller 115
<<<Previous page - First page - Next page >>>
I drew this months ago. I didn't have it in me to finish it, you're getting the very raw form of it. Not even speech bubbles. This one and the next page will probably the last pages of this series that will see the light of day. I've been having such an inner barrier when it comes to drawing.... just about anything.
I've barely drawn anything at all in an entire MONTH, I just don't feel it. I dunno what this means, I dunno if it will get better again and I suddenly feel my old urge to draw return. I'm still being creative, I've been writing on Jagged Jimmy like crazy. But the dread of picking up a pencil and drawing a whole damn comic line by line... it feels like an impossible task atm. Like running a marathon to the moon and back.
Be that as it may, I don't like leaving Hershel's story unfinished either. I might just put together an abridged version of sketches & notes to give the entire thing closure. I would have loved to tell the whole story to the end the way it deserves but my hands won't let me.

Sounds like you just have block or plain old burnout. My advice, don't even try drawing for awhile. Just work on the writing for a bit if that's what feels right at the moment. Then when you least suspect it, you'll get the urge to draw something again. It's just a matter of giving your brain a rest from that for a bit.
I once took an entire month break from drawing. Sometimes you just draw so much that you can't seen to will yourself to draw for a long while. There's nothing wrong with it and we all will be waiting patiently for when you return to art! Just take your time, relax, and worry not about drawing for now. Do it at your own pace and comfort and don't stress out too much about it, or try not to at least!
I hope you don't take it amiss me saying this, but I wanted to say for some time that I was always surprised at the speed at which you produced your work. Perhaps it is what works best for you, but it seems as though many artists who produce long-term work need to take decent sized breaks, especially when they are making so much all the time.
I would be happy to see a conclusion to Hershel's story, whatever form it takes, but I would also like to encourage you to give yourself some space and time. If your concern is for your audience (which is always appreciated, of course) please know that we are very forgiving of breaks and time as a whole.
It is good to push yourself as a creator a bit, of course. Routine is great. Knowing your limits is also great.
Think of it in terms of injury. The longer you push yourself through an injury, the longer it will take you to recover. Please be kind to yourself and give yourself a chance to flex your drawing muscles slowly. We are rooting for you.
