A little touch of character animation for a simple game I'm helping develop. Haven't done much animation in a long time, so it's good to know I haven't totally lost my touch.

Plans are to make a one-or-two player retro-ish game roughly similar in style to Bubble Bobble, Rodland, and stuff like that. The base idea is the player characters run around a hazardous factory environment full of conveyor belts trying to catch all the fluffy animals running around the level, but the details are still in flux.
Kind of like the idea behind "Zoo Keeper" from Taito.
Only instead of having the Keeper running around a square brick box, you have a kind of almost puzzle-game-ish style of running and jumping to try and snag the critters.
It's possible you can do it in a couple of ways:
1) Have the Dog Catchers/Zoo Keepers try and snag the animals with nets. This would make the game more action oriented as you then have to dodge the factory traps (or other levels such as fire/ice/jungle/etc.) while catching the animals.
The animals could also possible harm the zoo keepers by nibbling their legs.
However, if the Zoo Keeper theme is used, then it's possible to have much more dangerous animals such as Lions, Crocodiles, Hawks, and more.
2) Instead of nets, the only way to capture the animals is to get them into a specific trap. This makes the game into more of a puzzle-game. The players would then have to use various wacky controls and gadgets to try and lead the animals into a cage or net where they can be instantly transferred to safety.
It could be done in a way of Lemmings where the animals walk aimlessly until you do something. Or, it's possible to give the animals some commands to get out as well. In this situation, you must not only catch the animals, but PROTECT them!
3) Other. First, have you ever played a game called "The Incredible Machine" or "The Incredible Toon Machine"?
