Carmilla is Nina's familiar. She's more intelligent than regular cats and blessed with powerful shapeshifting abilities.
When she was a tiny kitten, carmilla and her siblings were put in a bag and thrown in a river. Nina was passing by, and heard the kitten squeaking. Carmilla was the only survivor, and Nina adopted her.
Carmilla makes it up to Nina by protecting her, guarding her things, bringing her food and, in Nina's emotional or reflective moments, being her closest confidant.
