This story was driven by a writing prompt given to sir-talen by rubbervixen on Deviant Art. To quote from the prompt:
12-year-old Naomi doesn't want to go to summer camp. She hates nature and bugs and the company of her boring, overprivileged, and cliquish peers. Sadly, she doesn't have a choice; her parents are getting a divorce and need the time to sort out the living arrangements for their daughter before school starts again. On the way to camp Leaning Trees however, The Fates (a giggling set of identical teen triplets) step in: Naomi accidentally gets back on the wrong bus when they make a refueling stop on the way.
She finds herself on a bus filled with demigod/esses, demons, mythicals, and shifters on their way to camp Divinity Lake. Making friends with a handful of these, they help Naomi blend in (and hide her secret from the counselors) using their powers. At Divinity Lake, supernaturals are expected to learn the skills they need to blend in to mortal society - skills the young Naomi appears suspiciously gifted at.
The ultimate test involves the intercamp Summer Games against the privileged kids of camp Leaning Trees (who are completely in the dark and must remain so according to The Rules). It’s now up to Naomi to help the supernaturals maintain their secret.
Various pieces of the story were rattling around in my head until my muse yelled at me to just put it to disk.
