I love a few closed species, but they’re much, much smaller groups and much easier to get into.

The most popular closed species are artificially inflated and so impossible to get into unless you’re a friend of the artist…

One of my most loved characters is technically a 'closed species' but the reason I love him isn't because he's 'closed', it's because he's a custom design from an artist I admire that has an open variant that is nigh indistinguishable from the closed ver- chimereons/primas? nice fucken TRY BABE u best know seel or have like 2k at least LMAO

Out of curiosity, why would you even want to be associated with their IP? Why not just say "console critter" or "robot raptor/shark" etc.

EG, there's a side cs from a really popular artist that I really love the design of but would never want to be associated with bc the lore makes me deeply uncomfortable. I could literally just call the character a satyr, nix the dogwhistle lore and no one would know the difference.

I've considered doing that! But mainly the thing that bothers me most is the fake exclusivity and bobbying around the concept of whatever species. The fact that the moderators and creators get so pissy when you can't shell out 200 USD for a 3-color-no-feature MYO slot that you just make one anyway.

It's also a matter of market/ wanting others to know that they can do the same thing, it's okay to do because it's harming literally nobody. Like uhhhh if someone tried to make a character out of one of my species, the only real prerogative is that I'm the species creator and can ultimately say what is or isn't 'canon' so it really doesn't matter.

I hate having my creativity limited, I felt this so much. That's why I just kinda make my own stuff in private and only share them with people I trust not to go around yeeting the pic around and calling me a sore loser, lol

Exactly, I hate when species creators get salty like I get it, you don't want people to make one without buying one got damn, but not everyone has the time, money, and patience. Personally, I think Closed Species are ridiculous, and a weird way to find a way to harass people about their creations. I'm not saying I wouldn't consider buying a 'legal' one, but at the same time, I'm not paying the price of a damn car for one, maybe if it was around 100-300 I'd probably consider it but like overall dear god lmao.

I have no problems with closed species that actually allow people in a bad economic situations or minors that can't spend real money to get a character or myo through raffles or special events.

However, when a cs is created clearly for profit and has a toxic community, that's where I have a problem.

When I first opened my DA account (ages ago) I had no idea what a closed species was. Yet I was bullied by the community of Foxfan's just because I drew a cat with multiple tails and it seemed like a fan (not my best drawing)! I was a kid! At the time I deleted the drawing from DA and my computer.

Let them try and bully now! If I find anyone being bullied by drawing something that resembles a closed species or even a character that fits the cs rules, I'll defend them until the end!

I agree but i found a way to smuggle myself of getting own them is by creating hybrids on real animal species and combined with certain things like magic or cyborg or mutant or monsterous. For example, i figure out how i get Sushi dog bootleg by creating closed eyes chibi Nihon ken (Japanese spitz) or Pomeranian or Keeshond nor any spitz dog breed. And for Cinnadog, give dog a big curled tail and paws.
By the way i already commited and made (Work in progress) OCs based on other closed species disguised as real life animal species.
I understand why some original species are closed even defended due to cultural and personal sensitivity, socialising in community to earn upgrades, copyrighted, profit from own creation, elitism, restriction and more but at least closed species are way better than infamous NFTs.
I myself is currently working on my own original species project and majority my species are Open while rarely for my species are Closed for reason is personal sensitivity.
