Marine Corps in the 1960s had a training class called Killing Tanks is Fun and Easy. Marine I knew from that time period said it was mainly focused on satchel charges and thermite grenades - apply to the engine compartment

This reminds of a story a friend told me

He's this fifty odd year old veteran, been in every war you can name, and he told me this story: during some fighting in the Middle East, he was sent to destroy a lost coalition heavy tank so the Iraqis couldn't get their hands on it. He packed it full of explosives and hid behind some bushes...for nearly seven hours. When a group of Iraqis showed up the detonated the explosives placed inside the tank, blowing them all to goodness knows where (and i have a good guess). As a side note, he claims he tracked the turret's height with a machine for tracking airplanes, and says it reached one hundred yards.

There's also the story of how, while trying to find out how much damage the Iraqis caused, he was able to visit Egypt, Bethlehem, the red sea and a few other important places. A higher up figured out what he was doing and had him sent back to Canada, via Rome.
