It's a little late for halloween, I know, but just decided to do a quick one-shot for the holiday. Enjoy!
The beams over head shook violently as the thing that was above them thrashed and stirred, loud and raspy noises flooding into their ears. The father held his son close as terror racked the child’s body.
“Daddy, I’m scared,” the son choked out, afraid the thing above them would hear.
“It’s okay, son,” the father replied, comforting the shaking body in his arms. “That thing will not hurt you. And after tonight it won’t scare you anymore. We’ll see to that.”
Above them, the thing let out a horrendous snort, rattling the rafters again as it moved. Both father and son had decided once and for all to take care of the creature that had kept them from leaving their home for years. But the son was scared and looked up at his father, ready to call off this whole insane idea. The child finally spoke and asked in a quivering voice, “Will we be okay? ...I don’t want to die”
“You are not going to die,” the father said, gripping the helpless child’s shoulders. “You and I will be fine.” His own eye reflected the same fear as he said this, unsure if any of this would work himself. For so many nights, he’d felt his chances slip away, the creature above constantly thrashing around and threatening their home. If only…
Suddenly, all was quiet. The eerie silence finally hit the father, signaling for them to move. The father let go of his son and motion for him to follow him and to stay quiet, for fear of alerting the creature. The son nodded tentatively and followed his father out of his home.
It was quick. Both father and son reached up from under the bed and snatched up the little boy, robbing him of the comfort of his dreams and dragging him to his doom, never to bother them again.
