Description:
Born on July 7, 1989, Grimnis had been living a tough life at the start. His parents had left him somewhere with the intention of having someone watch over him while they were traveling, alas, they died in an accident of unknown causes shortly after. He had to live on the streets for years afterward, avoiding trouble when it was necessary, being a black leopard and all. That was until he met Timothy Soro.
He'd heard of the boy before, knowing of something called the MALAKAS Project. There, anyone could become stronger than in their wildest dreams. Started by the father of Soro’s friend, Christopher North, the toxin of an alien parasite, once thought to be a previously undocumented species of earwig, was used to increase both muscle mass and strength—both of which Grimnis himself lacked. He begged the two to take him into the program, to help him escape the life he thought as hellish. North was hesitant at first, but, with the convincing of Soro, admitted him into the program.
His training was a breeze, turning him from a measly (in his opinion) man of 5’9” into a Super Soldier of almost 7 feet in height. He had even decided to undertake in the greatest, albeit temporary, Juggernaut rank. He felt great. Greater than he had ever been, in fact. He was honorably discharged after a few more months, but it was shortly after that time that things had started to go downhill for him once again.
One side of his body was beginning to rapidly lose its musculature—something very much unheard of for previous applicants of the program. He was desperate to return to MALAKAS, he wanted to fix his ailment, and it was something he later achieved, but at a terrible price.
It was on that fateful day that he snuck into the base of the project, looking for the cure that he so desperately needed, and he found a large canister full of a strange liquid. But he didn’t care, he had finally gotten to the solution of his problem, and he was going to get it one way or another. With a mighty punch, he hit it…
An explosion rattled through the mountains. Soro was alerted to the sound, knowing where it had come from. When he came into the room, he saw a horrible sight. There was Grimnis, both of the limbs undergoing the degeneration detached completely by the bone from the explosion, and part of his lower jaw destroyed and bloody. Soro, in a panic, called for help, summoning North and the scientists behind the project. Seeing what had just unfolded, they knew they had to do something before Grimnis lost his life right there and then.
Their solution was this: They would add some robotic parts to replace what had been lost in the explosion, and they would use the liquid from the canister, a new form of serum, as a form of life support, injecting it into his veins via the parts in question. During the procedure, the doctors discussed the topic. With these new parts, and the serum supplied by them, Grimnis would now permanently be at his Juggernaut height, but with a cost. If the serum were to ever run out, he would die. Fortunately, that has never even come close to happening, as the parts constantly reuse the serum, taking it out of his bloodstream and putting it back in again.
That experience changed him forever. As he was reckless and confident before, now he was a calmer, more cool-headed man, one who knew of the consequences of the actions he had taken. After much consideration, MALAKAS welcomed him back, though as a worker this time, not a subject. There are days, however, in which he has time to reflect on those events, and imagine what he could have done differently. Regardless, his near-death experience was ultimately what changed him for the better.
