Actually, if I may counter-nurd your question with more nurdding. the comic version of Starfire's flight trail was originally the same color as her hair. I believe George Perez, her co-creator, has stated that he got the idea from Mighty Mouse who had a red flight trail due to his red cape. Some recent artists however have started to give her a flaming flight trail similar to that of the Human Torch. I think I ended up going somewhere in-between the two.
