my lazy contribution to the character development meme
Although the manner in which I present my ideas change (ie style) this is the basic rundown on how this design came to be. With that said I do not have a singular style. I have several and none of them can be properly gauged using these images. Some of my styles progressed over time. Some stayed the same. Unfortunately a few of them got worse... but as far as these images go they are too inconsistent to be a skill meter over time!
Somewhere along the lines I wanted to drastically change the original character into someone who became obsessed with this false god/ tyrant. So... she fashioned together this suit that was meant to represent him likeness... something that eventually became a part of her - her obsession eventually taking over her persona as she became one of his most loyal followers. The sketch you see was part of an addendum to a design sheet that clarified some of the details to the people who where working on the same project she was in (forum battle comic).
Soon after is where I joined the fandom which is when I started exploring different ideas... a lot of it inspired by very specific characters (since I had a very weak feel for the fandom at the time). The one closest to the current incarnation came about when I randomly started factoring in sexual ambiguity with the design elements I already had.
Once I took some time to put some thought behind it and created an idea that I liked I stuck with it. Although another idea came out of this outside of the original drawing I didn't really like where the drawings of that character went, which is why She (as in NOT Mik) is still a WIP as far as this design goes. So technically this design tree doesn't end here! The current Mik is one two branches that split off of the one under '08', that branch then splitting off into 4 more~ A lab rat, a blue rat ( http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2.....9/07/bluerats/ ) a regular Otter (to juxtapose against Mik, who is not a true otter), and a Meerkat.
It is basically the end result of unused ideas progressing overtime until I settled on something I became fond of (something that I regrettably have not drawn as often as I would have liked).
This is not the only character I have created this way. There are several characters that I continue to draw for the fandom that are spiritually the same. Until I settle on a final design what you will continue to see are several lines of incarnations of the same character, lol.
It's an awful way to explore an idea (ie by rehashing the same thing over and over again) but what can I say? It's a fun way on settling on something I like. And it's not like it's a total waste... with so many ideas tossed around I always end up with enough material for multiple characters anyway. If I can get over the limited ways in which I draw hair the differences would be more convincing!
So yeah... huzzah for another submission that didn't require me to draw anything! (Sorry but I'm just way too busy atm)
