Maria struggled to lift even her head from the snow and the wind made it hard to hear but she thought she could just make out a bit of black through the pure white snow.
"...s...shadow..." she whispered reaching toward it. Desperate to see the one she cared for for what felt like one last time.
Shadow neared, carrying a large chunk of ice meant for the water barrel. He trotted easily through the deep snow and didn't even notice her behind the blowing snow until he got much closer. Being able to make out the bright red cloak against the white snow, even with it quickly getting covered.
