I was bored so I thought I would show you the process that is involved in making my art. All of this was done over a few hours with 5 pieces of paper. :3
1: Initial Idea Sketch.
So I have and Idea in my head of Duncan feeding Mac people from a bus, sitting on my belly. I start to loosely sketch out what I have in mind, but in this case I didnt like how it was going so I started over.
2: Refined Idea Sketch.
Having thought about how I want the characters positioned I start loosely refining the idea to get basic shapes down and working on gestures and expressions.
3: Starting Over.
Not liking how the pic was turning out I started over. This time having a much clearer idea of what I wanted. Expressions finalized and Ive started to pencil in the heavy line-work, only to realize that Ive drawn everything too high on the page This happens a lot and rather than cutting stuff off or changing the pic to fit in the page (I hate when i see other artists do that) I decided to start over again.
4: More starting over.
I lightly traced the previous pic and started to apply heavy line work to the entire picture. you'll notice from pic 3 that I hadn't finished drawing Duncan's left hand and on pic 4 I had trouble getting the gesture how I wanted it. I had to erase so much in that area to get it right that the paper was beginning to tear. Having finally gotten his had like I wanted it I looked over the entire picture and found some other things that weren't sitting well with me so I scrapped this version and started again.
5: Almost done!
Tracing pic 4, I quickly changed the things that I thought needed changing and applied the thick line work to the entire picture. Then I scanned it in the computer using Photoshop.
6: More changing and cleaning.
Having scanned in the picture I noticed that Mac head and feet were too small. So using Photoshop I enlarged these areas and started cleaning up the pencil work. I also added the people Duncans feeding Mac that I drew on a separate piece of paper. Now it was finally ready for color!

I am amazed at the work you put into your artwork!!!!! (loves your work even more now)
Just how this process works is nice :3 cant wait to see how you do those colors now!!!!
Also I might tryt his myself someday. (Is used to just going straight to digital and drawing/linearting everything from scratch) I dont too much sketching.

thats strangely pretty neat. I was never good with that whole circle and line technique that you always see it art books so even though every now and they i could do something pretty good, I just eventually gave it up. But your work is always amazing and it doesn't look like you do that at all. Maybe I should pick my sketch book again. Pretty inspiring stuff.
Oh wow, that's how you achieved those lovely thick lines on your finished digital works. Sounds dumb, but I always mulled over how you did it. You just use the sketch as the actual lineart (at least that's what I gathered, I could be wrong) and don't do the lineart digitally. I always do a rough sketch and then digitally ink it. I should try this way sometime. Seems fun! Thanks for posting this, Mac! <3 Your artworks are always such a joy to look through.
