Woof is a rescot- that is to say, a tulpa generated by the public perception of a company mascot. It isn't known exactly how these mascots come to life, but unlike the majority of tulpas, the number of individuals aware of the mascot does not seem to dictate the tangibility of a rescot. Although Woof's Ice Cream is an international franchise today, Woof himself was walking around in the flesh as early as the 90s, when the company was nothing more than a single stand in a small town.

Those who meet the elusive wolf describe him as a cartoon character come to life. His comical proportions and large, friendly eyes certainly make him look like a character from a children's animation, but what really sells the effect is the way light soft-shades his fur like a drawing. This phenomenon makes Woof look 'drawn onto' reality, in a way that can't fully be replicated with photography. Perhaps even more cartoonish is the wolf's bubby, over-energetic personality. Despite being the CEO of a company valued in the billions, Woof is apparently extremely amiable: interviewers who speak to him often report being abruptly pulled into a warm, furry hug, or covered in slobbery canine kisses.
