Eh, you'd be surprised really. Most hand strikes in most martial arts are straight in, straight out. Shortest distance between two points and all that. In such an attack, the wings would be edge-on to the strike, with how they attach at the arm, and thus wouldn't cause much drag. It would only be if he was trying to use boxing swings like hooks that he'd encounter problems.
Also, that's a Muay Thai stance, and the shin-wraps are also distinctive to that martial art style, which is not noted for its punches but rather its kicks. I could see his wings giving him additional stability for certain kicking strikes, and a certain maneuverability in the air that makes jump kicks less suicidal than normal, given that he actually has the capacity to alter his trajectory mid-air.
Given the open-handed stance, I would further assume that he focuses on using his hands either for the talons or for grappling, think something like Akido or, given the emphasis on kicks, more like Hapkido.
