I haven't drawn my old Republic Era Amaran Jedi in quite a while, but I recently acquired a baby rodian plush since I had the funny idea of wearing it as an accessory with my Ran-Qui costume and having it be her padawan.
I'm not sure how she gets a literal toddler as her padawan, but I don't think she's entirely happy with it.
I'm guessing that the jedi council didn't want to deal with a rodian so he's just dumped on her.

Yes they did very much exist in the Sith Empire. It is no secret the both sides were often hunting for new students.
Is it is just as believable that there would be a race for apprentices.
