Exile
The military invasion of Ukraine is not only terrible, but it is directly affecting some in the OOPs community, such as
Karintina , who is in the area under attack and cannot evacuate. Please consider helping in any little way you can, such as donating to https://unitedhelpukraine.org/ , or https://www.comebackalive.in.ua/
Also, remember: don't hate on the Russian people. Most of them are as appalled at what's going on as everyone else, and are risking their lives to protest the war; it's Putin that deserves all the hate, not the common people.

It was a front so that Lopin didn't get questioned by Narklet, thus revealing that he had 'zat zhing' and what that did to Kass

That is actually true and chances are with Beizel's ears (and those underhim) Vizlet probably knows he has declared his loyalty to Kass.
While this does work in her favor (since he is helping Kass with learning to be a Yinglet) Lopin is quite a loss for her Enclave since he speak quite elequently (by yinglet standards), can resist his instincts to solve a problem (he forced down his urge to gulp clams to give them to Kass) and actually the the emotional and mental capacity to actually know what "being dressed imodestly" means.
He's intelligent but he never had the chance to learn anything in Vizlets conclave since he was just stuck selling junk within the city. Vizlet shooting him down seems brutal but Lopin untimately is in a better place.

It has been a while, yesyes. Lopin was exiled in strip 30 to keep him out of Patriarch Narklet's control. Exile is a serious zing in yinglet society. It is a penalty zat needs to be consistently applied or ozzers will try to soften zeir own exiles and access za benefits of za enclave.

Yeah that last panel make me think she herself did not really want to phrase it that was or knew what he might have asked. It's a stern look, but giving how fast she went from calm and relaxed to stern makes me thing that that's a mask.
A 'heavy is the head' kinda deal.
A 'heavy is the head' kinda deal.
She had no choice. Lopin was exiled to save his life. If she treats him any diferent that someone she exiled for cause, it would put his life at risk. Its also clear to me that she was not happy, the last panel she looks very much not happy, and the way she said it, was actualy rather mild if you think about it.
Possible... It would also explain some of his anguish there. For Vizlet's pride in Lippie her disappointment in her son could be as great. Besides the Transmogrifying object's theft from the enclave, is there anything else he might have done of spectacular poor judgement that we know of?
Lopin sold ZAT ZING to Kassen, which turned him into a female yinglet. Brakka had ZAT ZING, and was running and hiding from members of the enclave when he gave it to Lopin. Brakka was working for Patriarch Narklet, who is involved with doing things without the matriarch's knowledge.
When Lopin was caught and brought back to the Enclave, Narklet was likely going to torture him to find out what he knew about ZAT ZING, and then kill him to make sure he couldn't tell anyone else. The Matriarch instead exiled him and gave him into Kass's care 1) to keep the innocent yinglet safe, and 2) so Kass COULD get the information from Lopin, and 3) so that Narklet COULDN'T get it.
The exile is to keep Lopin safe, but he doesn't understand that.

I suspect that while this is certainly painful and upsetting to Lopin, he'll snap back fast, he seems to snap back reeeeeally fast from hardships, it's actually really admirable. Though I suspect if he was told exactly why his former enclave was behaving like that to him... well, he'd most likely be entirely unable to keep that information to himself and would bungle things rrrrright quick.
well that puts a rather low note to end on what was supposed to be a happy little meeting to thank the man who saved one of their own at great risk and harm to himself and probably to try manipulate, uh I mean, talk about seeing if he'd be willing to help out other yinglets in the future.
"Heavy is ze head that wears ze shall."
On the plus side, if what Lopin was going to as is, "Can I come back someday.", this was not a 'no'.
Viz does not seem like one to willingly wish exile on anyone from what we seen, putting up with all manner of silly and shenanigans when she could cull the weak. And we know this is done out of protection.
Hard and sad as it is now, the pay off later gonna feel extra good I hope.

Kass has been neglecting his enclave of one, methinks.
Yes, Kass has a lot on his plate, but when Lopin accepted him as his new matriarch, that comes with a certain responsibility--even if simply complementing his latest outfit and giving him a pat on the head now and then. Stop neglecting Lopin, Kass!

Long time reader, first time caller but--
I ADORE characters like Vizlet. I have one of my own and it's the most infuriating yet satisfying feeling to have such a convincing, competent "ice queen" type that draws so much ire from audiences both fictional and real.
She has a duty to her enclave and her people-- she has to keep up appearances and she will never falter if she can ever help it. What folks don't realize (or remember) is that, in her own way, she's protecting Lopin. Cuddly nice-nice is for the younger girls. Vizlet is a true Matriarch.
...anyway I love her to bits. ;3;

If you think about it, Lopin has actually suffered a tremendous amount of emotional trauma recently. If you look at his life from his point of view the picture is pretty awful.
First he was hunted down, half-convinced he was literally going to have his eyes eaten out of his head, then he was beaten by the Yinglet scouts who caught him, who also tormented him by tearing his hat - sounds like a little thing but it was one of only a VERY few posessions he has, and one of even fewer he really cared about. That would be like tearing out the throat of a child's beloved teddy in front of them.
Then he was exiled from the only family he ever knew for reasons that weren't even his fault, sent to live with humans who at best look at him with mild contempt, and even if some are kind to him they can't replace the feeling of family. He also doesn't really have a 'job' as such now, he just hangs around and tries to keep himself occupied while waiting to see if Kassen wants him for anything. Speaking of Kass, she's the only person he has at the moment for any kind of support, and she blames him for her own troubles. In his position I would feel as though my life was on pretty shaky footing here. Meanwhile Brakka's still out there somewhere and wants to eat his eyes and probably kill him.
And now the person who is probably the closest thing to a mother in his life has publically snubbed him in a way that powerfully reinforces any emotions he has of being useless, helpless, lost and most importantly, unloved. And that feeling that no one cares about you is devestating, no matter who you are.
This upsets me on a VERY deep level, as I have known people who have committed suicide for less.
Valsalia, I love your work very much, and your characters are a joy to see come to life. On one hand, I don't want to tell you how to write your story, it is your story and I do love it. I do however have one request; please be kind to Lopin.
I'm told that this is Mental Health Awareness month in the US.
Something to think about.

Given the overall tone and content of the story thus far, I think Val has better days ahead for Lopin. No way to know for sure until they're illustrated, but I have faith in his ability and vision as a storyteller!
But otherwise you sum up my thoughts and impressions well. Just how rough our pretty boi has had it of late all came crashing down while reading this page. Yinglets are social creatures, even if their upbringing has warped them a bit. They need social bonds for their own emotional health. Lopin craves some ordinary, day-to-day companionship and normalcy (whatever that looks like for a Ying) real bad right now. No wonder he's throwing himself at Elim now.

Yeahhh Vizlet is indeed kinda like the singular mother figure for the entire enclave, as tends to be the case with Matriarchs, so that definitely stings.
Lopin does bounce back from adversity well, but you're right, he's definitely had a hard time lately. It really does make me glad that there are people who care so much about the lives of these characters, though! And while I won't spoil anything, I will say that I don't enjoy just being cruel to characters; everything that happens, happens for a reason that's connected to the story and/or their character development. Keep reading; I don't think you'll be disappointed. : )

Haha oh man, what a page to end up on : D
A readthrough all at once right now would at least put it in recent memory why ol' Lopey got the cold shoulder here, at least!
Really glad to hear it provided enough entertainment to keep you up a bit; honestly given how well you capture and illustrate the yinglets' yingletyness, I'm really surprised to hear you hadn't read it yet! Hopefully it's provided some extra ideas or inspiration for stickers and the like (not that you really needed it though, I love your work)

Would someone more proficient in computers (especially graphics) please donate the Field Guides to the Memory of Mankind? It is a million year time capsule in the Austrian Alps which seeks to preserve our civilizations knowledge and culture. The website is https://www.memory-of-mankind.com/

to me
best is to use a free online graphics program (or in case you have PS or corel draw, use these)
set the size of the page at 190x195 mm (w x h) and the resolution at 300 dpi.
insert the graphics with/ copy paste on the page and arrange it to use space most efficiently
safe as jpg and send it to: textdonation[at]memory-of-mankind.com
windows has a preinstalled graphics program (paint3D) , you can also try, but it is not comfortable to work with.
hope this helps?!

Damn, I feel like Lopin just got one-two punched there. First, he unintentionally embarrasses himself in front of his former Matriarch. Then, he gets shunned by said former Matriarch for completely unrelated reasons which weren’t even his fault to begin with. Big “Oof.”
