A young quoll doing a bit of hiking to explore the outback near Uluru/Ayers Rock. Not really a walkabout in a traditional sense, but trekking can certainly be a means of finding yourself. Hiking in Australia is pretty high on my list things I want to experience someday.
Quolls are some seriously adorable critters! The background took some time, but I think I'm starting to like painting them as well (even with all those bushes, eek)
This is my submission for Further Confusion 2011's conbook, with their theme Southern Crossings. It will also be for auction in the art show there =3

It's really heart warming to see such a beautiful picture done of my country, which doesn't tend to get much publicity on FA. Granted I don't live anywhere near Uluru, but you've captured it and the terrain perfectly, from the endless photos of it that I've seen. The girl is very pretty as well. Nice in every aspect, and thanks for showing Australia without any dangerous animals in the shot! :D
At the moment it is allowed and climbs are offered, but odds are you'll run into a lot of protestors on the way, and you might have trouble getting a booking. It's an ongoing debate and there're pretty close to closing it (from what I heard from my uncle who went there recently), but thusfar you can get up there.
If you want to climb something Australian, I'd sooner recomend Sydney Harbour Bridge. Lots more to see, and safer. :)
